The Hollywood power trio, who have proved to be an ongoing tabloid talking point since Brad and Jen’s acrimonious split in January 2005, topped a study looking into the most fascinating celebrity love affairs in showbiz history.

The poll of 2,000 British adults was specially commissioned by TV channel Really to coincide with the launch of the UK Premiere of Hart of Dixie, Mondays at 8pm from 30th April, which sees Rachel Bilson’s character Dr Zoe Hart caught up in a love tryst with the local lawyer and his fiancée when she trades in her New York lifestyle for a job in small town Alabama.

Jen and ‘Brangelina’, as the couple are more affectionately known, came in ahead of one of the Monarchy’s greatest controversies, the Diana, Charles and Camilla love saga, which played out in the public gaze throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

They were followed in third place by one of TV’s most talked about trios throughout the past year - The Only Way Is Essex couple Lauren Goodger and Mark Wright, and Mark’s on/off ‘bit on the side’ Sam Faiers.

The full top ten appears below:

1, Jennifer Aniston/Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie - 22%

2, Diana, Princess of Wales/Prince Charles/Camilla Parker Bowles - 21%

3, Lauren Goodger/Mark Wright/Sam Faiers - 8%

4, Prince Charles/Diana, Princess of Wales/James Hewitt - 6%

5, Monica Lewinksy/Bill Clinton/Hilary Clinton - 5%

6, Marilyn Monroe/John F Kennedy/Jackie Kennedy - 4%

7, Victoria Beckham/David Beckham/Rebecca Loos - 4%

8, Ryan Giggs/Natasha Giggs/Rhodri Giggs - 3%

9, Elizabeth Hurley/Hugh Grant/Divine Brown - 2%

10, Nancy Dell'olio/Sven Goran Erikson/Ulrika Jonsson - 1%

Others - 24%

The Royals have also found themselves back in spotlight at number four, although this time it was Diana’s infidelity that has taken centre stage, as respondents voted in her affair with Major James Hewitt.

Two White House sex scandals fell into fifth and sixth place, firstly with John F Kennedy’s alleged antics with Hollywood siren Marilyn Monroe, and Bill Clinton straying from wife Hillary with intern Monica Lewinsky.

A regular fixture in the Sunday papers, sporting affairs failed to go unnoticed, as arguably the most famous football frisson of the decade, David Beckham’s alleged adultery with Rebecca Loos made it onto the list at number seven. A more recent soccer sex scoop, Ryan Giggs’ affair with his brother’s wife Natasha, was at number nine.

The results also demonstrated how we are far from wholesome ourselves, as over a quarter (28%) of respondents admitted that they would be prepared to commit adultery, even if they believed they had met ‘the one’ or were already married.

On the results, relationships expert Jenni Trent Hughes said 'Ever since Julius Caesar, Cleopatra and Mark Anthony formed their romantic triangle in Ancient Rome we have been fascinated with the concept of a three-sided love affair.

'Be it a 'rivalrous' triangle with two people fighting for the attention of one; or a 'split-object' triangle with one person unable to choose between two suitors -  triangle spells trouble.'
