It might be human nature to sneak-a-peak at our ex-partner’s antics on Facebook or Twitter, but new research from PingMe today highlights the true extent of our curiosity.

Almost a quarter (23%) of UK consumers admit to tracking their ex through social media - with women being ever so slightly more nosey than men.

Maybe with the vast swathe of social networks, photo sharing and filtering and geo-location services, it’s easier than ever to keep tabs on your ex.

The findings follow previous research from the free cross-platform messaging app, PingMe, which found that a third of UK consumers would also track their partner’s whereabouts using a smartphone if they were given the option.

Rupert Staines, managing director of PingMe comments on the findings: "With the wealth of information available online, it’s understandable that we might let curiosity get the better of us occasionally.

"However, the fact that it’s no longer a case of seeing what they’re up to but actively tracking their behaviour is surprising.

"The increased uptake of social media and the widespread adoption of smartphones are changing the way we interact with our closest contacts - we no longer have to communicate, we can sit passively on the side-lines to learn what is happing in their lives."
