One Third Admit To Having An Intimate Relationship In The Workplace

As the generation-defining drama, ‘This Life’, returns to UK screens on Sony Entertainment Television (Sky Channel 157), it was revealed today that the original real-life counterparts of Anna, Egg, Milly, Miles and Warren (professional workers, aged 35 - 44 year olds) are three times more likely to have become romantically involved with a colleague than their typically carefree 18-24 year old co-workers (29% vs 8%), a survey by Sony Entertainment Television has found.

The survey which questioned 2000 white-collar office professionals in the fields of IT, Finance, Law, Marketing/Advertising and Management found that one third of all those surveyed admitted to having an intimate relationship in the workplace mirroring the fictitious storylines of This Life, which showcased the lives, hopes, fears, and extracurricular activities of professionals in the 1990s, proving the drama is still relevant today.

Romance

The survey shows that the ‘This Life’ generation continue to outdo their younger colleagues (18-24 year olds) in the bad behaviour stakes by being over fives times more likely to have been fired for having a romantic liaison at work than the 18-24 year olds (35% vs 6%).

The 35 - 44 year olds were also more likely to have experienced a superior making a pass at them (22% vs 9%) and to have responded in kind than the 18 -24 year olds (21% vs 6%).

Risk-taking

When it comes to risk-taking, the 35 - 44 years olds in the survey also showed themselves to be three times more likely than the 18-24 year olds to have been to a meeting hung-over or still drunk from the night before (30% vs 9%) or to have embarrassed themselves whilst drunk at a work event (29% vs 9%).

Revenge

Surprisingly, the 35 - 44 year old age group were also found to be the most likely to enjoy engaging in gossip about a colleague to get them into trouble with almost 25% admitting to starting a rumour about a colleague, compared to only 5% of 18-24 year olds.

This Life, which laid the groundwork for realistic UK drama, is now airing on Sony Entertainment Television, Sky Channel 157 on Wednesdays at 9pm.
