myLovelyParent.com has set up the Older Gent Academy in the hope to give older men the confidence they need to get back onto the dating scene.

Relationships on Female First

myLovelyParent is a website where adult children encourage their single parents online to meet new people.

The website, launched in October, has four times the number of women to men subscribed. This is partly down to statistics - in the UK there are 2.3m men over the age of 45 living alone compared to 3.5m women.

Matt Connolly, founder of myLovelyParent, believes there is a different reason for the discrepancy.

He says, “Demographics play a hand but the main reason is that older single men often become set in their ways and struggle to form new relationships. Often lacking the confidence they once had, many stop trying entirely.”

With the New Year fast approaching myLovelyParent wants to change this and so have launched the Older Gent Academy to give dads around the world the chance of a new look, new skills and a new start.

Membership to the Academy can only be applied for by adult sons and daughters and all 1,000 dads signed up to the Academy will receive free membership to myLovelyParent.com for as long as it takes to find that someone special.

Each year four chaps will be selected from the Academy and given a tailored suit, expert coaching and a copy of the myLovelyParent Older Gent Handbook.

To launch the Academy myLovelyParent has shared five top tips:

1. Be open to the world

A gentle man is not afraid to be open or to show his emotions. Don't be afraid to talk about the past and make sure you remember there is still a future. The world still has so much to teach us. .

2. Not all is lost

Chivalry is not dead. There is still a place for walking on the outside of the pavement or opening the door for a someone. Have dignity and honour yet remain humble and thoughtful.

3. We are all one

Be polite to everyone through your actions and words. Opinion and strong views are welcome but only if tempered. Racism, sexism and chauvinism have no place in today's world.

4. Be yourself

Present the best version of yourself and in turn you will show respect to others. It's not just the cut of your suit but the confidence, attitude and charisma that makes you the man you are.

5. Be interested and stay interesting

Ask questions and never stop listening. You never know what you might learn or who you might meet.

The Academy officially launches on 1st January 2013 and is free to the first 1,000 dads.
