The predicted Christmas boom in sex toy sales will be helping to fund sexual health projects in 2013, thanks to an initiative by charity FPA.

Money raised by the charity’s online sex toys store, www.desireandpleasure.co.uk, is helping to fund a number of projects, including providing training courses for specialist advisors who then go on to offer sexual health services, often free of charge, within their local communities.

FPA estimates that for every 20 vibrators it sells (or equivalent value of other products from its wide range of sex toys) the charity can fund the training of one of these advisors.

Terry Hawkins, Business Development Manager, for FPA says, “Our mission is to give straightforward information, advice and support on sexual health, sex and relationships to everyone in the UK.

There is an urgent need to fund better access to such support as this is one of the areas of public health spending where government funding is being cut.

It seems appropriate that the rapidly escalating consumer demand for sex toys, in part fuelled by the success and media interest in novels like 50 Shades of Grey, help us to meet this gap in funding”
