Stressed-Out Brits Spend A Year And A Half Of Their Life Worrying

Researchers found the typical adult scratches their head in despair for at least 36 minutes a day, with high cost of living, feeling out of shape and mounting debt the most common triggers.

Getting old, job security and dire sex life also leave a dark cloud looming over millions of Brits.

The study found extreme anxiety has left adults unable to concentrate at work, enduring sleepless nights and causing rifts with their partners.

But one in ten feel restless for more than two hours a day and half worry so much it has affected their health.

The study of 2,000 Brits was carried out to mark the launch of Everyman’s Male Cancer Awareness Month. Its key aims are to improve awareness around symptoms and risk factors for prostate and testicular cancer, as well as raising funds for its research at The Institute of Cancer Research.

Tatjana Trposka from the Everyman campaign said: "A large chunk of the nation feels considerably worried and people are wasting far too much time stressing about things they can’t change.

"Money is dominating most of people’s thoughts - whether it’s mounting debt, how they’re going to pay their next set of bills or the fact they’ll never become financially secure.

"But it’s interesting to see that health concerns are quite far down the list.

"While we don’t recommend people worry needlessly about their health it is important to prioritise wellbeing, especially over things that can’t be changed.

"Knowing how to recognise key risk factors for your personal circumstances can mean catching potential health problems early, which is one less thing to worry about down the line."

The poll found the average Brit spends 36 minutes a day worrying - or nine whole days a year - which totals one year and six months during their life.
