The 28-year-old culinary star baked his way to victory and was crowned this year’s winner of the Channel 4 show, beating rivals Dan Hunter and Josh Smalley to the title, but that doesn’t mean he will let his newfound fame get to his head.

He told the Daily Star newspaper: “I hope 'Bake Off' might just change my life a little bit, but being a PE teacher is something I really enjoy.”

Matty added that his pupils had been tuning in to watch their teacher skills in the kitchen.

He continued: “I know they will think it’s cool that I have won but at the same time they will be really surprised.

“They have invested in me throughout the series so there will be a sense of pride with them all, of sharing the winning with me. I was so blown away by their support.”

Although he is elated at being crowned champion of the Channel 4 programme, Matty admitted he did not believe he could win after having countless mishaps and making several big mistakes in the tent.

He said: “Without a shadow of a doubt, I was the official underdog throughout the series, so I think everyone was surprised when I made it to the final and then won it, including me!”

After the PE teacher emerged victorious in last night’s (28.11.23) final, Matty was speechless, but made sure to congratulate his fellow contestants.

He added: “It was quite a tough final. We were all aware of how close we were in baking skills.

“Dan and Josh were great to have as fellow finalists, but it was a shock for everybody when Tasha went at the semi-final. She was such a good baker and equally such a lovely person, we were all so sorry to see her go.”
