The 41-year-old actor will guide viewers in the five-part Channel 4 show, which sees 12 strangers work together to build a route across 250 metres of water to a nearby island in 20 days.
If they succeed, they will then have to vote for who they think is most deserving of the £100,000 cash prize.
The winner will then have to decide if they want to share their winnings with their teammates or keep it all for themselves.
Rick Murray, managing director for Workerbee, said in a statement: "The Bridge is an innovative and groundbreaking factual entertainment format and we're thrilled to be making it for Channel 4 from our HQ in Manchester.
"Pulling together a show of this nature and scale in the current environment has been no mean feat but we're raring to go and it is going to be fascinating to see if this cross section of people can work as a team even after months of lockdown."
Warren Smith, the company's executive producer, added: "After months of lockdown, a group of strangers have come together to tackle an intense challenge. We aim to find out whether they will work in harmony or will ruthless behaviour play a part in securing the £100,000 winnings?
"Filmed in the British countryside, we will demonstrate that you do not have to travel abroad to find beautiful locations, they exist on our doorstep."
The X-Men actor is currently starring in BBC series His Dark Materials which last saw his character, Lord Asriel, open a bridge to a new world, and Lyra (Dafne Keen) following him into the unknown.
