When looking for somewhere to stay in London, there are countless options depending on where you're going, what you're doing, and how much you'd like to spend. During my recent visit to the capital, I was all set to attend the DragWorld 2019 event at Olympia London, so had a look at some hotels in Hammersmith that would suit, within walking distance of the convention's venue.

Brook Green Hotel offered up a feature room and three-course meal for two, so I, along with a friend, hopped on the Underground and made our way to the public house. The staff were extremely accommodating upon arrival; we had a check-in time of 1pm, but were allowed to leave our luggage in storage earlier on so that we could make our way to the DragWorld event without dragging everything along.

Upon our return, the staff member on the desk had changed, and the pub had gotten a little busier, but the level of service was up there with some of the best. It was relaxed, informative, and laid back: exactly how it should be to put visitors at ease.

Our room

The Smiths Feature Rooms are the best of what the hotel offers. Each includes a number of amenities, including Sky HD Digital 32" LCD televisions, with individual Sky boxes including Movies and Sports at no extra costs. There's also a mini bar and snack drawer (including individually-priced drinks and snacks), a hairdryer, robes, His & Her sinks, temperature-controlled aircon, complimentary WiFi, digital radio, laptop-sized safe, tea and coffee making facilities, an iron and ironing board, premium toiletries and a huge bath.

At £119 single or £129 double occupancy per night, including breakfast, you really can't go wrong!

Our feature room was breathtaking from the moment you stepped inside. There wasn't a view outside of the windows, but everything within was a sight to behold. Our twin beds (which we requested: you can also have a double!) were set up alongside one another, opposite the television, and allowing for plenty of space to move and breathe in the rest of the room.

Attached was a gorgeous en-suite bathroom, with a roomy shower and loads of space for all of your bathroom gadgets up on the His & Her sinks. Plenty of toiletries were available to ensure you could clean yourself up during your stay, and enjoy the big bath that took up one corner.

Immediately feeling like a place you could call home during a long stay in Hammersmith, Brook Green smashed it out of the park.

The food

When it came time for dinner, I was super excited to check out the menu and what was on offer. The restaurant section is attached to the main pub, but allows for enough privacy away from the action if there's sport on the big screen.

For our starter, my friend and I decided to share a garlic and herb baked Somerset camembert, with chutney and sourdough soldiers. Anyone who knows me understands that one of my biggest loves in life is cheese and chutney, and this was up there with one of the finest I've had the pleasure of chowing down on.

When it came time for my main, I went for the pub grub usual of a Brook Green burger, which included shredded lettuce, ale onions, pickles, ketchup and mayo, with a side of fries. Again, it was absolutely delicious.

Then for dessert, I had the chocolate and orange tart with clotted cream. This unfortunately let the meal down a little. The tart tasted as though it had just been defrosted, and didn't live up to the standard set by the first two courses.

Breakfast the next morning allowed us a selection of different items, including cereals and toast, as well as a menu featuring a unique collection of foods. If you fancy starting the day with something stodgy, there's the sausage and bacon roll. If you want something lighter, you could go for the pancakes with maple syrup and seasonal berries.

In conclusion

Brook Green is a gem. Whilst we had some troubles getting back inside the hotel when we returned following a night out (perhaps something that should be told to those staying upon their arrival!), we cannot complain about the gorgeous room we stayed in. The food was, on the whole, a brilliant addition to the overall experience, and staff were professional and friendly throughout.
