You could be forgiven for thinking that The Twang have been with us for a while now. From their appearance on the national scene in October of last year, the five lads from Birmingham have been collecting tips for 2007 and breathless critical appreciation like Jose Mouhrino collects other team’s players.Several things are known. That their pre Christmas London gigs were packed to the rafters with a mix of record companies, cool kids and travelling mates that created a combustible and incendiary set of shows. That this, their debut single, is already a firm favourite with the DJs and listeners of Radio One.That they are, quite genuinely, one of the most exciting bands to appear in the UK for a long time and that, for once, all those tips and name checks are worth the paper on which they are written. If you still need proof look no further than a sold out Club NME at Koko early this year where the ‘official’ capacity seemed to have increased substantially by the time the band came on stage.Or check the reaction to the band on their MySpace page – www.myspace.com/thetwang ; as the band themselves say, “Everybody’s ‘Avin It”.With a UK tour already sold out in many of the cities that it will visit over a month and a half, “Wide Awake” is the tune with which The Twang will announce their arrival into the UK’s record collections and onto their Ipods. The cd will feature a brand new track, “Tea Stained Page” which close observers may know in demo form whilst the 7” will feature another new track, “Aimless With An Aim”. The Twang are currently putting the finishing touches to their debut album in the Midlands, expect more news soon. The Twang
