Reese Witherspoon is one of the most recognisable and bankable female stars working in Hollywood at the moment and we are going to be seeing plenty of her on the big screen in 2015.

Wild

Wild

Wild is a movie that has already been winning acclaim on the festival circuit over the autumn, and is sees Witherspoon return to a major leading dramatic role: a role that could see her in the Best Actress Oscar mix once again.

There are only a couple of truly standout female performances so far this year, and it looks like Witherspoon and Julianne Moore are a certainty for a Best Actress Oscar nod for their performances in Wild and Still Alice. At the moment, it is looking like a Witherspoon/Moore head to head for the biggest acting prize early next year.

Wild marks the return of Jean-Marc Vallee to the director's chair for the first time since his success with Dallas Buyers Club, as he brings the real-life story of Cheryl Strayed to the big screen for the first time.

The movie based on Strayed's memoir Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, and will see Witherspoon take on the role of Strayed in the movie - it really is set to another great role of the actress to truly get her teeth into.

Wild is the first time that Witherspoon has teamed up with director Vallee, who directed Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto to Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor Oscar for their work in Dallas Buyers Club earlier this year, as he returns to the biopic genre. Vallee has also been behind movies such as Café de Flore, The Young Victoria and C.R.A.Z.Y. during his filmmaking career.

While Witherspoon is set to be the heart and soul of Wild, she is joined on the cast list by Laura Dern, Gaby Hoffman, Michael Huisman and Thomas Sadoski.

With the dissolution of her marriage and the death of her mother, Cheryl Strayed (Witherspoon) has lost all hope. After years of reckless, destructive behaviour, she makes a rash decision. With absolutely no experience, driven only by sheer determination, Cheryl hikes more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone.

Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddens, strengthens, and ultimately heals her.

Wild is a movie that was met well at the BFI London Film Festival in October - where is was one of the gala screenings during the festival - and it is set to be one of the biopic treats of next year.

We all know how much the Academy loves a biopic performance and this is a movie that Oscar voters will be keeping a close eye on in the coming weeks. This would be the first nomination for Witherspoon since she triumphed for her fantastic performance in Walk The Line.

We are going to be treated to a handful of biopic movies at the beginning of 2015, and Wild is going to be one the standout films in the genre.

Wild is released 16th January 2015.
