Trainwreck is set to be one of the comedy movies of the summer and has already enjoyed box office success in the U.S. and is the latest in a stream of great female-fronted comedy films.

Directed by Judd Apatow, Trainwreck is written and stars Amy Schumer, who has seen her star rocket with her central role in the outrageous comedy.
To celebrate the release of the film, we take a look back at some of the highest grossing female-led comedy films of recent years.
- Sex and the City - $415.2 million
It was back in 2008 when Sex and the City hit the big screen for the first time, four years after the end of the hit show.
Michael Patrick King was back in the director's chair and penned the screenplay for the film. And King was no stranger to the world of Sex and the City, having directing and produced for the original television series.
Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon were back as Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Charlotte York, and Miranda Hobbes, while Chris Noth was also back as Mr Big.
Sex and the City picks up after events of the final episode of the TV series and sees Carrie finally getting married to Mr Big. However, Carrie is left devastated when Big jilts her... will they ever be together?
Fans of the series flocked to cinemas upon its release and the movie went on to be a box office smash around the globe. Sex and the City was the biggest opening of an R-rated comedy and for a romantic comedy in the U.S. and was the biggest rom-com of the year.
Sex and the City took over $415 million at the global box office - despite mixed reviews from the critics - and was a huge hit. Parker, Cattrall, Davis, and Nixon returned two years later for Sex and the City 2, which also enjoyed box office success.
- My Big Fat Greek Wedding - $368.7 million
Hard to believe that My Big Fat Greek Wedding was released back in 2002 - yes, it really was thirteen years ago - and yet it remains one of the most successful films in this genre.
The movie saw Nia Vardalos take on the central role of Toula Portokalos, a Greek woman who falls in love with a non-Greek - but her family struggle to accept her choice. As well as starring in the film, Vardalos penned the screenplay while Joel Zwick was in the director's chair.
John Corbett, Lainie Kazan, and Michael Constantine starred alongside Vardalos, while Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were aboard the project as producers.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding was one of the big sleeper hits of the year as it went on to gross over $368 million at the box office by the end of its theatrical run - making it one of the most successful romantic comedies of all time.
Over a decade on, My Big Fat Greek Wedding remains a triumph in this genre and is a movie that really is a lot of fun. On top of that, it is a movie that is warm, touching, and with something incredibly human about it.
- Bridesmaids - $288.4 million
Bridesmaids was one of the most talked about movies of summer 2011 as Paul Feig returned to the director's chair for the first time since Unaccompanied Minors back in 2006. Since the release and success of Bridesmaids, Feig really has been at the forefront of female driven comedy.
Bridesmaids saw Kristen Wiig - who also stars in the film - team up with Annie Mumolo to pen the very funny screenplay. Mumolo did appear in the movie but only in a cameo role.
The movie saw Wiig take on the role of Annie, who is set to serve as maid of honour for her best friend Lillian. But her life starts to unravel when she and Helen compete to be bridesmaid that can meet Lillian's needs. Annie bluffs her way through the expensive and bizarre rituals and her friendship with Lillian is put to the test.
Wiig is terrific in the central role of Annie and is joined on the cast list by Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Wendi McLendon-Covey, and Melissa McCarthy - this proved to be the major breakthrough film role for McCarthy and was the start of a great actor/director relationship with Feig.
Bridesmaids was both a critical and commercial success up on release and was one of the big sleeper hits of the year. The movie grossed over $288 million at the global box office and was one of the biggest comedies of 2011.
The film went on to pick up two Oscar nominations; Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress. Sadly, the movie did walk away empty handed.
- Spy - $233.1 million
This summer we have seen McCarthy return to the big screen with action/comedy Spy, which is the third collaboration between McCarthy and Feig. So far, it is one of the best action/comedies to hit the big screen and it is great to see McCarthy back on top form.
Spy also sees the actress reunite with Rose Byrne, while Jude Law and Jason Statham are two of the other big names on the cast list. But it is McCarthy who takes centre stage as she takes on the role of CIA analyst Susan Cooper.
The movie follows Cooper as she volunteers to infiltrate he world of a deadly arms dealer, and prevent diabolical global disaster... but does she have the courage and the ability to save the world?
Spy opened to critical acclaim earlier this year and it is one of the most praised comedy movies of 2015 so far - I would also say it is one of the best comedy movies of the year.
Spy was a number one smash hit at both the U.S. and the UK box office and has, so far, grossed over $233 million worldwide. It looks like it might finish the year as one of the best and most successful comedy movies.
- The Heat - $229.9 million
We are sticking with the McCarthy/ Feig theme as The Heat is another female-led comedy that has enjoyed box office success. It was back in 2013 when the film hit the big screen and saw McCarthy team up with Oscar winner Sandra Bullock for the first time.
Bullock played an uptight FBI Special Agent and McCarthy is a foul-mouthed Boston cop, together they must team up to take down a ruthless drug lord.
The Heat is a movie that blended elements of comedy, action, and crime and saw McCarthy and Bullock made a terrific comedy buddy team.
The chemistry and the banter between these two women is just fantastic - hard to believe that this was scripted as it has such a spur-of-the-moment feel to it. The female buddy movie is a bit of a rarity and it is great when you see it done so well.
The Heat was the second of three box office successes for McCarthy and Feig as the movie grossed over $229 million by the end of its theatrical run. It finished 2013 as the second highest grossing comedy of the year behind We're The Millers.
