Mark Strong

Mark Strong

To celebrate the release of Green Lantern - in cinemas June 17th, we’re turning the spotlight on actor Mark Strong

Strong’s character in Green Lantern is the villainous Sinestro, so we’re giving you the top 5 baddies that he has played in recent films, have we missed any?!

5. Frank D’Amico - Kick-Ass (2010)

Strong plays Frank D’Amico, a dealer who has built an epic crime empire.  By ruling the city with unrivalled force Frank does whatever is necessary to get what he wants - and even gets his hands dirty to deal with problems - such as medalling superheroes!

Definitely sounds like a villain Sinestro would be proud of!

4. Lord Blackwood - Sherlock Holmes (2009)

Using fear and the occult as his dastardly arsenal, Lord Blackwood (Strong) seems to be an unstoppable and unrivalled dark force.

When his lack of dark magic is uncovered (Sinestro wouldn’t be impressed!) Blackwood looses a few villain points and is ultimately foiled by Holmes and Watson.

3. Godfrey - Robin Hood (2010)

Strong takes an even darker turn as ruthless knight Godfrey.  Much like Sinestro, Godfrey is a schemer and tries with all is might to help the French army invade England.

As Godfrey, Strong cements the fact that he is the go-to man when it comes to villains!

2. Toby Crackit - Oliver Twist (2005)

Part Dickensian gangster, part London scamp; Toby Crackit (Strong) and his partner in crime ruthlessly force poor orphan Oliver to accompany them on an armed robbery.

The robbery however, is foiled - they should have never sent a boy to do a man’s job - leaving them empty handed.

You can trust Sinestro would never make to mistake of playing babysitter on any of his schemes.

And number one.......

1.Sinestro -  Green Lantern (2011)

Who else as Mark Strong’s most villainous character! Starting out as Hal Jordan’s mentor - and a master of the power ring - Sinestro is hugely respected and powerful to boot!

When Sinestro’s suspicions towards human Hal grow (Hal is the first human to join the Corps) the good guy act begins to unravel and when Sinestro finally embraces his villainous side he is truly a force to fear.

Green Lantern is released 17th June
