Game of Thrones is back on our screens, and apparently inspiring our beauty trends too.

New figures have revealed that the UK is becoming a nation of platinum blonde, strong-browed women inspired by the key character, Danaerys Targaeryen.

Since the airing of the first episode of the fourth season on April 7th 2014, Amazon.co.uk has seen week on week sales increases of the following products as women seek to recreate the Westeros look:

·      Platinum blonde hair dye is up 533% week on week, inspired by Danaerys’ signature braid
·      Eyebrow grooming kits are up 27% week on week, to achieve the thick, dark Daenerys brow
·      Auburn hair dye is up 50% week on week, inspired by Sansa Stark and Melisandre
·      Contouring brushes are up 200% week on week, to get the cheekbones of Cersei Lannister

Even the Queen of Pop is involved, with Madonna recently replicating the Danaerys look of darkened brows and platinum tresses and posting a photo of her transformation on social media.

“As the popularity of Game of Thrones continues, it’s not just the books and DVDs that are performing well. It appears that fans are taking their love of the show to a new level by adopting the hair and make-up looks of their favourite characters,” commented Xavier Garambois, Vice President of EU Retail at Amazon. “As surprising as it may seem, this show is ahead of the field when it comes to influencing the beauty trends of 2014.”

“The ‘Game of Clones’ trend sees Brits adopting a naturally flawless look over the fake tan and false lashes seen on other influential TV shows such as The Only Way is Essex,” added Jacqui Kane, Beauty Store at Amazon.co.uk Ltd. “The bestselling products reflect how fashionable the characters in the series are but we don’t envisage King Joffrey becoming a grooming icon any time soon.”
