There doesn’t seem to be a day when Meghan Markle doesn’t make it into the news or become a trending topic on social media.

Meghan Markle oozes with class and sophistication

It also seems she doesn’t get a fair deal with the press. Constantly making headlines for not following royal protocol due to her choices in nail polish or opting to wear jeans in public – it’s like they will go after her over anything.

But we can’t understand why the media insist on attempting to stir a tension between the Duchess and the British public.

Thankfully, people aren’t taking too much notice of the rubbish being spouted by some press.

So, to fight back at the often-ridiculous headlines, here are some of the things we love about Meghan Markle.

She’s effortlessly elegant

Meghan is famous for her messy buns and natural make up, and she pulls off every look so effortlessly.

When it comes to fashion, she is often compared to her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton. However, the two duchesses have a very different style. Whereas Kate often opts for floral and colourful prints, Meghan usually goes for a block colour and a business-type look.

She may not always dress like a ‘typical’ royal, but she does always present herself fabulously and is a style icon in her own right.

She really cares about making a difference

When you’re a royal – or any public figure for that matter - there are certain duties you must go with and ideas you should stand either for or against. Sometimes it can leave us wondering how much the people in the public eye actually care about these matters.

But even before Meghan became a royal - in fact - before she became an adult, she was campaigning and standing up for her beliefs. If you haven’t already seen this video, then, it’s time to watch it. It’s true, Meghan has always been vocal in her beliefs.

In her adult life, Meghan has continued to speak out against these types of issues and fighting for gender equality.

She has written in Time magazine about the stigmatisation of women regarding menstrual health, worked with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women as an advocate, and is a vocal feminist using her platform to support women’s rights.

Basically, Meghan Markle is exactly the kind of role model we should be encouraging our children to listen to.

She’s going to give birth to the next royal baby

We just love when there’s a new royal baby on the way, and the Duchess of Sussex is carrying the newest member of the royal family.

It hasn’t even been a year since Harry and Meghan married, but she’s now six months pregnant with their first child.

The media recently went into a frenzy when Meghan told an excited fan about when she was due and that she didn’t know if it was going to be a boy or a girl.

We can’t wait until the spring for Meghan to give birth to the new royal baby!

She’s got time for her fans

When you look up to a celebrity and have a role model, meeting that person can be life changing. And for so many children, particularly young girls, Meghan Markle is a person of inspiration which they look up to.

Meghan always gives her time to children who she meets – she’s going to be such a great mum.

She’s talented too

When someone marries into the royal family, we don’t often know too much about their life before, but we all already knew who Meghan Markle was.

Her celebrity status meant we had already been keeping up with the gossip for years before, and of course, this was because she had an acting career spanning almost two decades.

Meghan has been in some big films and TV shows, including Horrible Bosses, Get Him to the Greek, Remember Me, and of course her most well-known role was when she played Rachel Zane in Suits.

Not only was she a hugely successful actress, but she was also an avid blogger with a massive following. The Duchess ran a lifestyle blog called The Tig, where she wrote about food, fashion, travel, beauty, and profiled inspirational women. The Tig’s Instagram page eventually reached three million followers, before Meghan had to remove all traces of herself from social media once she became a member of the Royal family.

She is the face of a modern society

As we already mentioned, Meghan puts all her effort into making a difference so that women and girls can be confident in their own skin.

Meghan is a mixed-race, divorced, American woman; something that was heavily emphasised when her engagement to Prince Harry was first announced. This shouldn’t be a big deal, but it is, because it shows how far we have come as a country - and it should've happened a long time ago.

People get married and it doesn’t always work out. People have mixed heritage and it’s outrageous to think this should hold people back in life. Meghan is a human being. She has had relationships that have failed, there are issues within her family (only worsened by the media), and she is proud of her ancestry.

What’s so great about Meghan that makes her stand out from other royals, is that she is flawed, and we know she doesn’t have a 'squeaky clean’ past, but that’s what makes her more relatable to the British public.

It’s hard to believe in the fairy-tale lifestyle – the one where we fall in love with our childhood sweetheart and spend the rest of our lives happily ever after. It’s rare. But this is what we are often presented with the royal family.

That’s why Meghan and Harry’s love story is particularly special, because it was criticised and analysed from the very beginning, but they proved that you don’t have to follow all the rules to have a happy ending.
