Strike Pushes Back New Star Trek Movie....

The forthcoming Star Trek movie is the latest casualty of the recent writers strike after studio bosses had to push back the release date for the sci-fi franchise's latest offering. The news of the delay comes just days after the Writers Guild of America (Wga) members voted to end a three-month strike over Internet royalties earlier this week (begs11Feb08).The movie - set to be directed by Lost co-creator J.J. Abrams - was due for release later this year (08), but now Paramount has decided to halt the project until at least 2009.According to website andpop.com, the studio has insisted the delay is due to "gaps" that now occur in the movie release schedule after many projects were postponed or canceled due to the strike. The movie is one of many ventures that has been disrupted because of the strike, which is said to have cost Los Angeles' film and TV industry at least $650 million (£325 million) in lost wages, with the wider economy losing over $1 billion (£500 million).
