Maria Bello is to focus on helping women and girls

Maria Bello has joined an advisory panel for Haiti alongside politicians, business leaders and charity workers.

The actress is a longtime supporter of aid efforts in the poverty-stricken nation and has helped raise thousands of dollars for the cause with her We Advance organisation, which helps Haiti's earthquake survivors.

She has now been given a chance to contribute to a Haiti advisory panel, which also includes former U.S. President Bill Clinton, Nobel Peace Prize winner Mohammad Yunus and adviser to Haitian President Michel Martelly, according to the Associated Press.

Maria also made an appearance at the Emmy Awards on Sunday evening.

Bello plans to focus on projects that help women and girls in Haiti as the country tries to recover from last year's earthquake. She has worked in Haiti the past three years with various aid groups, most of which concern women and health issues.
