The 29-year-old actress starred as dealer Jaq in the Netflix crime series 'Top Boy' and having fought off competition from Elizabeth Debicki ('The Crown'), Harriet Walter ( 'Succession' ), Lesley Manville, ('The Crown' ) , Nico Parker, ('The Last of Us') and Siobhan Finneran ('Happy Valley'), almost broke down in tears after she was announced as the winner.

Speaking live on stage on Sunday (12.05.24) at the Royal Festival Hall in London, she said: "Oh my goodness, I don't even know what to say, I'm overwhelmed. I was not expecting this!

"I wanna thank God, I wouldn't be here today without him. Cowboy Films, 'Top Boy', Netflix, I don't know where I'd be without you. Oooh, this was not expected!

"Thank you BAFTA, I love you all, you mean the world to me. I just do what I do to try and change a life and save a life, I wasn't expecting this!"

Jasmine was just 14 when she made the decision to leave her family after being granted the "worst behaved child” by Westminster Social Services following a series of bad decisions but insisted that even though it was a "tough" thing to do, it put her on the path to where she is now.

She told HungerTV: "My parents raised me to be very independent. I always pride myself on being able to walk into a room and read people. In a way, it is a wall and it protects me, but it’s the best thing that anybody could have. [Going into foster care] was a big eye-opener for me.

"It’s crazy actually looking at yourself in the mirror like that at such a young age. It was a tough decision for all of us, and it wasn’t easy but we’re here now and it was the best thing I ever did."
