hi. I really want to use tampons but i am scared i'll get TTS! If i change the tampon every four hours and use normal absorbency how much risk will i be?

As long as you follow the guidelines on the box and change them as often as it says then you will not be at risk. Toxic Shock Syndrome has been found to be more prevalent in women who use higher absorbency tampons, as these are often left in the vagina for longer than low absorbency ones. Try a low absorbency tampon and change it regularly throughout the day.
Yang replies
Neither is confirmed but it is thought that tampons cause TSS because if left in for a long time, are a breeding ground for bacteria. It is also thought that the materiel can scratch the lining of the vagina allowing infection to get into the blood stream. Just be sensible and change every time you go to the toilet.
