Better not to lie to him and tell him the same back when you feel differently. Perhaps don’t tell him about your best friend's brother and just tell him that you want to break up. If you tell him that you are leaving him for someone else, he will feel more deflated. Maybe say you are sorry for letting it get to the point where he has fallen in love with you but before he falls any deeper in love with you, you thought it was best to end things.

The fact is, he will get over it in time, but the longer you drag it on if your heart isn’t in it the worse it will get. Try to tell him his positives while you do it- that he does treat you well and is lovely to you so he will make the perfect boyfriend for someone else. This will leave him with some positives to try and let him focus less on the break up. Break ups are often harder because you believe that you might not find anyone else again, try to reassure him that he will, but that you are just not the one for him.
