Mother and child at home

Mother and child at home

Becoming a mother is one of the most precious moments in a woman’s life. After the birth of a child some mothers may choose to give up work and focus solely on looking after their baby. However some women are feeling pressured to go back to sooner than they would like after David Cameron’s new policies.

The government’s new policies will take away child benefit from households where a single earner brings home £60,000 a year, however if both parents work and earn £49,000 or less each they will not lose the benefit.

The coalition has also gone one step further and seems to be openly supporting households in which both parents work. Last week it was announced that the government would like to give such couples £2,000 a year in tax breaks towards childcare.

In a financially difficult time many women will not be able to afford to lose their child benefit and will have to go back to work, subsequently forfeiting the most important job of raising their children at home.
