Miriam Margolyes, Adjoa Andoh, Maggie Steed, Zawe Ashton, and Charlie Higson will also lend their voices to the upcoming animated TV version of Judith Kerr’s much-loved classic children’s book.

'Bridgerton' star Adjoa will narrate the tale, which will bring Mog's family and neighbours to life, and Judith's daughter Tacy Kneale will provide the loveable feline's purrs and miaows.

Gwawr Lloyd, Drama Commissioning Editor at Channel 4, said: "We are utterly delighted to be bringing Mog to screen with our partners.

"It is the perfect Christmas tale full of fun and adventure with a star-studded cast including Claire Foy as Mrs Thomas and Benedict Cumberbatch as Mr Thomas.

"Channel 4 has a long-standing relationship with Lupus Films and together with their creative flair we have brought so many classic stories to the screen that have been enjoyed by generations of viewers. Judith Kerr’s much-loved Mog will be a great addition to this collection and a really special festive treat for the audience."

Benedict will voice the character of Mr Thomas, with Claire cast as Mrs Thomas, and Miriam and Maggie will play the Aunts.

What's more, 'Fresh Meat' star Zawe will be one of Mog's neighbours, Mrs Gaynor, and Charlie will portray the Jolly Uncle.

The book tells the story of Mr and Mrs Thomas and their children Debbie and Nicky - who will be portrayed by newcomers Amelie Law and Teddy Skelton - who are preparing to host the two Aunts and Jolly Uncle for Christmas.

But Mog is feeling ignored and doesn't enjoy the big Christmas tree, scampering onto the roof when it arrives in the family home.

After an eventful night, she eventually falls down the chimney upon hearing breakfast mentioned, much to the family's relief, and they all can enjoy Christmas together.
