Solo travel as a woman can be incredibly empowering and rewarding. It allows you to step outside your comfort zone, and gain a sense of independence and self-reliance. You can set your own itinerary, explore at your own pace, and connect with locals in a truly unique way.

Greek Islands

Greek Islands

As a seasoned solo traveler, I highly recommend exploring the Greek islands. The stunning islands of the Aegean Sea offer an opportunity for self-discovery and adventure, with each island offering its own unique charm. Navigating from island to island is a breeze with the exceptional and affordable ferry system and there’s a wonderful range of accommodation types to suit all styles and budgets.

So, which Greek islands are the best for solo travel? Here are six of the top islands to consider, including Serifos, Sifnos, Folegandros, Kos, Syros, and Milos.

Serifos is an idyllic island that offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Here is a great place to be alone as you can spend your days selecting a spot to relax with a book on its unspoiled beaches or indulge in local food at one of the picturesque villages. The island is lesser-known and therefore offers untouched breathtaking landscapes making a haven for nature lovers. Serifos is perfect for solo travelers who want to disconnect from the world and recharge their batteries.

Sifnos is another island that is perfect for solo travelers. It's an island favoured by food lover's, with traditional Greek cuisine being the highlight. The island also boasts some of the best beaches in the Cyclades, making it a great place to unwind and soak up the sun.

Folegandros is one of the most underrated Greek islands with picture-perfect whitewashed villages, stunning cliffs and crystal clear waters, Folegandros is an Instagrammer's dream. The island's rugged terrain and winding paths make it ideal for exploring on an ATV and finding a slice of Grecian paradise all to yourself. A visit to the magnificent Panagia Church at sunset is a must.

Beautiful Kos
Beautiful Kos

Kos is a larger island that offers a bit of everything for solo travellers. It's the most well-known and definitely busiest on this list but it does offer direct flights from the UK. Though there are some obvious tourist spots there are also opportunities to find solitude in the mountain villages but if you're looking to make friends on your travels then Kos is known for a vibrant nightlife.

The beaches of Milos
The beaches of Milos

Milos is famous for its stunning geological formations, including the unique Sarakiniko Beach, which is surrounded by white volcanic rocks that resemble a moonscape. Whilst this is the main draw to the island Milos is one of the best places to be alone if you are a water baby. Rent a set of wheels and spend your days bathing on some of the best beaches in the world. There’s little nightlife in Milos meaning you won’t have to worry about having any evening FOMO, instead wake up with the sun and enjoy the incredible view!

Syros is a lesser-known island to the masses but the capital of the famous Cyclades. It is home to charming towns and villages, including the architecturally impressive Ermoupoli which is one of my favourite towns in all of Greece. Syros also boasts some of the best beaches including Galissas Beach and Kini Beach, which are perfect for swimming and sunbathing. This is the island where the locals ‘summer’.
