Jack and Jade were torn apart by her death from cervical cancer back in 2009 and Jack has spoken previously about how he still has feelings for his late wife.

Although Jack and Chanelle’s situation is more extreme than most, it can still be hard if your partner hasn’t moved on from their ex so here are some tips on how to deal with the situation.

How Did it End?

You’ve got to look at how their relationship ended. If it ended badly they’re less likely to hold onto feelings for their ex, but if it ended mutually on good terms then it’s likely they still hold a flame for their ex.

If, like Jack and Jade, things ended suddenly and unexpectedly then it can only be expected that it will take your partner a long time to move on from their previous partner.

What Can You Do?

If your partner is having a hard time moving on from their ex, it can begin to tear the relationship apart and will start to affect how you feel towards your partner as well as in yourself.

Feelings of resentment towards them as well as your self-worth diminishing can all become too real so you’ve got to be proactive. Talk to your partner, ask them if there is anything you can do but also let them know how you feel.

Highlight that you will do anything you can to help them, whether this be therapy or even having some time apart.

Assess the Relationship

If it becomes clear that your partner is quite ready to be in a relationship then it might be time to think about your future together.

It’s important to remember that just because they aren’t ready now doesn’t mean they never will be. Each break-up needs a mourning period and if your partner never got the chance to have that then it’s only fair that they get it.

Speak with your partner about it, they might not realise that a break from the relationship is something they might need.

Be Supportive

The most important thing of all is that you be supportive of your partner. Shouting and getting angry will only make them feel worse.

The more support you show, the more likely they are to want to work to make your relationship last.

Although it can be hard for you, try to be there for them as much as you can and hopefully your relationship will be back on track in no time.
