A survey has been conducted into the spending habits of men during the Euro Tournament and shows that they spend more than they would for their partner’s birthday.

MyVoucherCodes.co.uk asked 1023 men, who were in a relationship, to fill in a questionnaire about their spending habits during the Euro’s and compare it to their spending when it comes to their partner’s birthday.

Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, says, “As the UK’s leading discount website, we always aim to discover more about the spending habits of the British consumer.

“We thought it would be interesting to see just how much football supporters spend on treating themselves throughout the course of the Euro, as opposed to money they spend on gifts for their partners.”

It was discovered that, on average, a man will spend £214 over the course of the Euro’s, whereas they are only likely to spend £147 on their partner’s birthday.

Fifty three per cent said that they would be watching the matches at the pub and would buy food and drink to accompany the games, and 32 per cent said they would buy drinks and takeaways whilst watching the matches at home.

Eighteen per cent said they would buy merchandise from the games, or an England kit to show their support, with nine per cent saying they would place bets on the matches.

Many men didn’t feel guilty about spending more on the games than their partner’s birthday, 74 per cent, in fact.

Forty seven per cent said that they felt entitled to spend more because the Euro’s weren’t a regular occurrence, with 22 per cent saying that they felt they were entitled to a little indulgence.

Mark Pearson was a little surprised with the results, but supports the idea. He says, “It was a little unexpected to see that men spend more on items related to the football championships than they do on presents for their partners.

“However, international Championships such as the Euros don’t happen every year, so maybe men can be forgiven for a little self-indulgence.”

So ladies, get those receipts out and start totting up their spends. Did your partner spend more on the Euro’s than on you?
