Sherlock Holmes 3 is a movie that there have been whispers about for some time, but it doesn't look like they are going to start filming any time soon.

Wigram, Guy Ritchie's producer/writing partner has given fans an update on the status of the project and he revealed that they are still focused on getting the script right.

Speaking to IGN, Wigram said: "We're working on a Sherlock Holmes 3 script. I think we would all love to do one if we could come up with something that really was really going to knock it out of the park and was going to be the best of the three. So we're working on that - it's quite hard to do."

Ritchie took over the Sherlock Holmes franchise for the first time back in 2009, returning two years later with Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

Over the last year, Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law have expressed a desire to return to the roles Holmes and Dr Watson but didn't know when any filming was due to go ahead.

2015 has been a busy year for Ritchie with the upcoming release of The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which hits the big screen in the UK next week. The movie is based on the hit sixties TV show and will see Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer take over the roles of Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin, originally played by Robert Vaughn and David McCallum.

Ritchie is currently working on his new project Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur, the first in what could be a series of King Arthur movies should the first be successful.

Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur is set to hit the big screen next summer and will see Charlie Hunnam take on the lead role of King Arthur. Jude Law, Katie McGrath, Eric Bana, and Astrid Bergès-Frisbey are also on board.

Fingers crossed we will see the script for Sherlock Holmes 3 finished by the end of year so they can start filming in early 2016.
