As one of the most talked-about upcoming films of next year, Darkest Hour arrives in cinemas across the globe in January 2018, starring Gary Oldman in the leading role of Winston Churchill. You can now check out the first official trailer for the film below:

Also starring the likes of Scott Thomas, Lily James, Stephen Dillane, Ronald Pickup and Ben Medelsohn, the movie comes from director Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice), based on a screenplay by Anthony McCarten and produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Anthony McCarten, Lisa Bruce and Douglas Urbanski.

Beginning on the eve of World War II, the film will explore how Churchill must face one of his biggest challenges within just a few days of becoming Prime Minister; deciding whether to commit to a negotiated peace treaty with Nazi Germany, or fight firmly for the ideals, liberty and freedom of the nation.

As Nazi threats roll through Western Europe, an invasion feels imminent in Britain, but with a public that are unprepared and a King sceptical about the future, Churchill faces party in-fighting and must withstand his darkest hour if he’s to rally a nation and change the course of world history.
