Motorists turning to Dad

One in four people claim Dad knows best when it comes to motoring advice

  • 23% of motorists turn to their Dads for everyday motoring advice
  • One in six rely on their Dads for everything to do with their car
  • Search launched for Dads to join expert motoring panel

Dad knows best when it comes to the nation’s cars, with one in four (23%) UK motorists turning to their Dads for everyday car advice before asking anyone else, according to research from nationwide tyre retailer, ATS Euromaster.

One in five motorists do ask their local garage or service centre for car advice, but many are turning to their Dads because they trust their judgment (50%), they always know the answer (24%) and it’s just more convenient (16%).

The research also found that Dads are most commonly asked for help and advice on how to get from A to B (21%), how to change a tyre (20%) and how to check and change oil (18%).

Anita Ellis, Online Marketing Manager at ATS Euromaster, said: “With one in six people admitting they ask their Dads about absolutely everything to do with their cars, our research shows that there are thousands of Dads offering motoring advice to their loved ones and not receiving the praise and recognition they deserve.”

“We want to reward these unsung heroes, so we’re launching a nationwide search to find the Dads who are in pole-position when it comes to motoring advice.”

The research also found that women are much more likely to turn to their Dads, with one in three (37%) asking them for help with their cars. The most common reason was for advice on how to change a tyre (40%), followed closely by how to check tyre pressure (35%).

Anita Ellis continued: “Most of us at one time or another, particularly when we first started driving, have relied on our Dads to answer all of our car questions – I know I did! This competition is a great opportunity to thank him for those years of advice so why not nominate your Dad today.
