Ruth Langsford, TV presenter, Ashley Lilley, actress (Ali in the film Mamma Mia!), and Tania Bryer, TV presenter and writer, are championing the rights of people with dementia by supporting Alzheimer’s Society for the Bupa London 10,000. Ruth Langsford, best known for presenting with her partner Eamonn Holmes on ITV1’s This Morning and Ashley Lilley will be running in the Bupa London 10,000 to help Alzheimer’s Society, Bupa’s nominated charity for 2009, reach its £1 million target.

There are 700,000 people with dementia in the UK and nearly 60,000 living in London. Ruth, Ashley, and Tania will be encouraging people in the London area and beyond to grab their running shoes and draw attention to a worthy cause by dressing in their favourite 60s, 70s or 80s accessories as part of Alzheimer’s Society’s ‘Jog Your Memory’ theme. The Bupa London 10,000 will take place on Monday 25th May 2009 and people can sign-up right now to run for Alzheimer’s Society, before the entry deadline Friday 17 April 2009.

Alzheimer’s Society Ambassador Ruth Langsford says: "My father has dementia and as someone who has experienced the devastating impact of this condition first hand, I can’t stress enough how important it is to raise money to support people today and find a cure for tomorrow. Alzheimer’s Society has helped my family and thousands of others so signing up to runs or sponsoring someone who is running is a fantastic way to make sure this vital support continues."

Alzheimer’s Society supporter Ashley Lilley says: "I feel really strongly about supporting dementia. Since I was a young girl, my mum has been a senior care worker dealing with people with all types of dementia. I have witnessed how debilitating this condition can be. I too am determined to help make a difference. So grab your running shoes and a 60s wig and join me in jogging a few memories to raise awareness and funds for an extremely worthy cause."

Tania Bryer Alzheimer’s Society Ambassador comments: "I am delighted to support Bupa London 10,000 run and Alzheimer's Society's Jog Your Memory campaign. Having watched my father Lionel lose his battle to Alzheimer’s, I feel that anything I can do to help alleviate the pain and suffering that accompanies this cruel disease is the least I can do."
