Chocolate Teapot Biscuits Recipe

Chocolate Teapot Biscuits Recipe

Afternoon Tea is a British tradition and if you’re hosting your own little tea party then you have to have these as a tasty addition.

Miranda Gore-Brown, Great British Bake Off Finalist, has created this lovely recipe for the Dreams Come True Tea Party campaign.

The campaign hopes to see people all over the country hosting their very own Dream Tea parties in order to raise money for the charity

Why not try making them for yourself this weekend and host your own tea party?

Chocolate Teapot Biscuits

Ingredients:

The biscuits –

55 g dark chocolate (Bourneville or Belgian is best)

200 g unsalted butter, softened

160 g caster sugar or vanilla sugar

50 g golden syrup

1 egg, lightly beaten

350 g plain flour

50 g cocoa powder

1 teapot shaped cutter

Chocolate buttercream -

300g icing sugar

3 tablespoons of cocoa

150g unsalted butter, softened

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

2 tablespoons of boiling water

Method:

For the biscuits -

Melt the chocolate. Cream the butter with the sugar, then beat in the melted chocolate and syrup until light and fluffy.

Add the egg and mix until well combined.

Sift in the flour and cocoa powder, then mix until a dough starts to form. Bring it together with your hands and divide in half.

Roll each piece into a ball and flatten into a disc (don’t worry if they are a bit sticky).

Wrap each disc tightly in cling film and chill for at least 1 hour.

Line two baking trays with non-stick baking paper.

Roll out each disc of chilled dough between two sheets of cling film, then stamp out your shapes. Place on the prepared trays, spacing them at least 3 cm apart, and chill for another 15 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 180ºC/Mark 4 and bake the shapes for about 10 minutes, until the surface is dry and the base is firm. Allow to cool on the trays for 10 minutes, then use a palette knife to transfer the biscuits to a wire rack.

Once the biscuits have cooled, add the buttercream and sandwich together.

For the buttercream -

Sift the icing sugar and cocoa into a bowl. (It is so tempting to miss out this step, but sifting is essential if you want a smooth buttercream.)

Add the butter, vanilla and boiling water and beat well with a fork or a hand mixer until smooth and creamy.
