Larry Crowne DVD

Larry Crowne DVD

Starring:  Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts,  Cedric The Entertainer, Taraji P. Henson
Director: Tom Hanks
Rating:  3/5

There have been so many actors who have mixed acting with directing this year with Tom Hanks being on of them as he returned to the director’s chair.

When appealing everyman Larry Crowne (Hanks) is inexplicably fired from his job as a big box store clerk, he realizes it's time for some meaningful change in his life.

Deeply in debt and without direction, he returns to college where he befriends a group of scooter-riding students and eventually develops a real affection for his beautiful speech class instructor, Mercedes Tainot (Roberts).

Tom Hanks reunites with his Charlie Wilson’s War co-star Julia Roberts for this really charming story of the everyman.

This movie may have had a hard time with the critics when it hit the big screen earlier this year but it was a movie that I really enjoyed.

This is a film about a middle-aged man who turns his life around and begins to see the world through new eyes.

It’s a true underdog story and Hanks has created a central character that is likeable and charming from the opening frame.

The central relationship of Larry and Mercedes really makes this movie work as there is a really chemistry between the pair.

Roberts is also great in this movie as a teacher who wonders how much impact that she has on the lives of their students - feeling a little trapped with a husband that she doesn’t really like.

Sure this movie doesn’t set the world a light but there is something very heart warming and positive about it as it delivers a very uplifting message; you are never too old to turn your life around.

Without a shadow of a doubt the two star leads makes this movie more their relationship seems so real as they start to have an impact on each other’s lives.

Larry Crowe is a charming movie from start to finish. It’s a straight forward story of a man trying to better himself and the friends and laughs he makes and has along the way.

It’s simply directed and beautifully acted it’s a story that will draw you in until the closing credits and leave you with a real sense of optimism.
