1. I have wanted to write fiction since I can remember. I have a notebook from Kindergarten that has three-sentence short stories–mostly about a dog and a cat going to the store. I wrote my first book in fifth grade (an American Revolution historical fiction, which won an award). In high school, I got detention for circulating steamy romance stories around during class. 2. I have backpacked through Europe for months at a time by myself three times. The first time I was 32 and I took off for the Eastern Bloc alone with a single backpack and a rail pass and made my way through eleven countries. I became obsessed with solo travel and did it again and again! I have a two-year-old daughter now, so my solo trips are probably done for a while, but I hope to teach her the magic of a woman traveling alone.

3. My favorite drink is a dry vodka Martini with two olives and a twist. Make them blue cheese olives and I’m in heaven.

4. I am obsessed with burritos. Like obsessed. I grew up in California, so it’s sort of our state food. I’m a vegetarian, so pile on the black beans and avocados. And don’t forget the extra spicy hot sauce. (my husband says I eat food solely as a vessel for hot sauce)

5. Because of my husband’s job, we move a LOT. As of this writing, we’ve lived in seven houses in eight years, which includes moving across the country five times (two of those times with a baby in tow!). The changes happen fast so we’re never entirely sure what tomorrow will bring–other than another adventure!

6. I’ve been obsessed with murder mysteries since I was little. Clue was my favorite board game, I read every Box Car Children book, I watched Law & Order religiously (especially SVU!) and have always dreamed of living in a Clue House (i.e., a big creepy mansion where people have definitely died).

7. I’m a health and fitness devotee. I workout 5-6 days a week, I eat a vegetarian Mediterranean diet, practice daily yoga, and meditate twice a day. My guiding playbook is The Blue Zones, by Dan Buettner, which focuses on the communities throughout the world that live the longest and happiest.

About the Author

Amanda Traylor writes gripping murder mysteries and domestic thrillers with complex, capable female leads designed to keep you up all night. When in the mood, she also crafts the occasional messy love story (Because, hey, the world is a complicated place).

A Northern California native, she had a fantastic time studying English and Journalism in the foothills of the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains and then a very serious time slaving away for a Master’s degree in sunny Southern California. When she’s not murdering innocent characters, she spends most of her spare time plotting world adventures and putting on the San Francisco Writers Conference.

She currently lives in beautiful Colorado with her dashing, real-life hero of a husband who inspires her heroes and villains alike. During the pandemic they welcomed their first daughter who is doing her best to keep them on their toes.
