Heinz Pasta BFG

Heinz Pasta found that Roald Dahl has come out on top as the best children’s author of all time and commissioned this image in honour of one his most beloved books, The BFG.

Despite being the tender age of 28, I still get that feeling of excitement when I think of one of his books, particularly The BFG and if that exhilaration can last 2 decades, I would say that is testament to an exceptional writer. I admittedly would not hesitate to read one of his books now and I aspire to read them all to my children when I have them. It is encouraging that I feel I can pass down a book to my offspring that I enjoyed when I was young- proving that his books are timeless. His work has inspired many adults to write a children’s book of their own- empowering stuff.

The elements that are most important in a children’s book are such as imagination, language, sense of humour and engagement- all of which I can confidently say Dahl expressed in his writing- it is no surprise why his popularity has extended through the generations.

Adults are keen to read books that are written by celebrities, hence why David Walliams has such a popular following by both children and their parents, so I am not alone in my openness to dive into a book meant for kids.

The most reassuring thing about reading with children today is that many parents average at one book a week- so those who believe that reading is a dying art- think again- if you don’t like what’s on offer today- dig out on of your old favourites and it’s guaranteed to make you smile and indeed your children too.
