Steve asks :

Hi Lucy,

I’ve begun to fall in love with a 32 which is already a little strange as I am 22. We were kissing when I bit her neck she instantly withdrew herself saying she felt I was trying to put my stamp on her. She said ‘who does that still?’

I apologised and tried to clarify that was not my intention. I only did it as I thought she exposed her neck to imply that’s what she wanted me to do.

She was clearly not impressed and suggested my error was due to my age. We left on what seemed okay terms however she suggested there wouldn't be another date. I really like her and want to continue to see her.

Getting intimate with someone new is all about trial and error unless your partner tells you otherwise. You only get to know your lover's likes and dislikes if they communicate them to you.

Yes hickies are often associated with younger people; however older lovers can also enjoy the feeling of having their neck nibbled too. It's all down to personal preference.

Perhaps she reacted this way because she is feeling insecure about the age gap. If this is the case then she may have focused on the act rather than talking about her true feelings surrounding your age difference.

If she is willing to go on another date, perhaps reinforce the point that you assumed that's what she wanted. Maybe you could ask that in future she could tell you what she wants and doesn't want from your intimate time together.

If she doesn't arrange another night out with you then perhaps she is too hung up on the numbers- even if you aren't. If she is concerned about it so early into your relationship, then it may only get worse. If this is so- you may be better off dating someone who isn't worried about that sort of thing if you prefer having romantic relationships with older women.
