Savannah asks :
Hi Lucy,
I am 5 foot 1 inch. I weigh about 101 pounds. Am I overweight?
Hi Savannah,
If you have any concerns over your weight vs your height, there are many online tools to help you find this out.
According to Lloyds Pharmacy;
To calculate your BMI, you'll need to know your weight in kilos and your height in metres, then follow the example below:
Step One: Multiply your height in metres by itself, eg 1.7x1.7= 2.89
Step Two: Divide your weight in Kilos by this figure, e.g 80 ÷ 2.89 = 27.7
Step Three: For this example 27.7 is your BMI
Below 18.5
This means you may be underweight which could be associated with a number of different reasons- pay a visit to your GP to try and find a way of helping you achieve a healthy weight.
18.5-29.9
You're a healthy weight for your height.
25 or more
You are above the ideal range and you could be overweight. This means that you are heavier than is healthy for someone of your height. This excess weight can put you at greater risk of heart disease; strokes, type 2 diabetes and you should seek information on what a healthy diet looks like.
30 or more
A BMI that is at 30 or above means you are obese, which puts you at an ever greater risk of heart disease, stokes and type 3 diabetes. Losing weight to get into the healthy rage would bring you numerous health benefits, so you should seek out what a healthy diet looks like.
