It’s over. Game of Thrones has wrapped filming on its eighth and final season, with cast and crew posting tributes on social media to their time on the show. Whilst there’s still a lot of work to be done behind-the-scenes, with editing and putting the last six episodes together for consumption in 2019, it already truly feels like the end of an era. To mark the cameras being put down, we’ve decided to take a look back at all we’ve seen from Game of Thrones to-date, but instead of marking out the saddest and most shocking moments, we’ll be looking at some of the funniest parts of the show that have provided some much-needed comic relief.

6. Walder Frey’s awful memory

We never thought we’d have something good to say about Walder Frey, but the character did make us laugh when referring to one of his granddaughters, introducing her to Robb Stark. “Waltha? Walra? Waldina.” Correcting her elder, the girl replies: “I’m Mary.” All she gets back from her grandfather is a “fine.” With eight wives, seven daughters, and a whole line of bastard children and granddaughters, it must be hard to keep up with everybody…

5. Lady Olenna’s debut

Diana Rigg has been without a doubt one of the most beloved characters throughout Game of Thrones’ run, as the Queen of Thorns, Lady Olenna Tyrell. Audiences took her straight to their hearts as soon as she made her first appearance on the show, sat in a carriage and incredibly dismayed to be travelling to King’s Landing. The smell isn’t something she was looking forward to experiencing at all…

4. Margaery zings Cersei

Margaery Tyrell obviously gets her quick wit from her grandmother, the Queen of Thorns, as she welcomed Cersei Lannister to a meeting she was having with her staff. As we all know, Cersei is somebody who enjoys her wine no matter morning, noon, or night. Margaery enjoyed pointing that out when she got a visit from the Lannister matriarch, saying: “I wish we had some wine for you, it’s a bit early in the day for us.” Ouch!

3. Tyrion’s renovation service

When Cersei took it upon herself to move her chair to the opposite side of the table to those serving the crown, so as to be away from her brother Tyrion and be closer to her father Tywin, the youngest Lannister offspring decided he would also take matters into his own hands. Scraping his own chair across the floor, he instead opted to sit at the foot of the table, directly opposite his father. A brilliant moment that had everybody in floods of tears the first time they watched it.

2. Stannis Baratheon’s grammar lesson

Stannis here proved he was just like many of us online who cannot abide by terrible grammar! Correcting grammar has become a pastime for many, so it’s great to see that even in a fictional universe, far before the modern world, there are still those who simply want to hear people speak properly!

1. Tyrion slaps some sense into Joffrey… three times!

Tyrion is one of the wittiest characters to come from Game of Thrones, but sometimes it takes more than words to get your point across. Tyrion has proven that in his confrontations with nephew Joffrey Baratheon, slapping the vile King on three occasions because of the disrespect he has shown him.

Game of Thrones season 8 will premiere on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK at some point in 2019.
