Research has found that 20% of women have a long term relationship after kissing a work colleague under the mistletoe. One in seven are still with the same person they lip locked with at Christmastime.

Christmas parties span from tomorrow and go right through to Christmas Eve, making the chances of finding love greater than at any other time of year. The average woman will attend four Christmas parties over the festive period and she will always look her best, spending around £100 for each outing on clothes, make-up and hair taking around 4 and a half hours to get ready. 38% admit that they spend so much time getting ready in order to impress someone in particular.

The bubbly will equate to 24 glasses over the course a month, which makes the conversation and the love flow more freely.

13% have their eye on a work colleague this year and a quarter of women have kissed someone at a work's do.

A spokeswoman for who commissioned the study said, "Despite the many hours of party prepping, women will be dashing out of work for last minute party essentials including tights and false eye lashes; with more than two thirds (69 percent) stocking up on mouthwash, gum or a toothbrush to ensure they are ready to get up close and personal on their big night out."

Commenting on the research, dentist Dr Luke Thorley said: "With women attending an average of four parties in the lead up to Christmas, it's never been more important to look and feel your best.

"Being in close quarters with friends or colleagues means having confidence in your breath is a must - particularly if you're planning a kiss under the mistletoe! To help maintain fresh breath, try alternating your festive tipple with a glass of water to keep your mouth hydrated."

Although women are excited to put on their gad rags and find someone to smooch, they still worry about how confident they will feel in their chosen getup. There is also the stress of getting chatted up by someone they aren't interested in and not by the one person they are.

22% also worry that they'll feel embarrassed over arriving at a party alone.

Having their boss there also means a lot of women can't relax into the night. Many fear being rough at the next day if they're at work and so don't have as much fun as they would like to.

Another bug-bear is having to spend even more time with work colleagues after an 8 hour day with them already.
