You are the only person who is absolutely guaranteed to be with you for every single day of your life.

Did you know that?

Of course, you did. It’s obvious huh?

But did you really, truly realise it?

Have you ever stopped to think about it?

For me, it is the biggest reason why you need to be the most important person in your life.

But it feels selfish doesn’t it? And we’re not taught to be selfish, in fact we’re actively taught to be selfless, to put other people before ourselves. Being selfish has all kinds of negative connotations.

Let me explain to you my top 3 reasons, apart from the one I’ve already mentioned, why you need to be your own number one priority.

Reason 1: This is YOUR life

This life that you’re living, it belongs to you. Nobody else. I wholeheartedly believe that our primary purpose on this planet is to experience joy and happiness. Which, for me, means living your life to the absolute fullest, doing things that bring you joy and happiness, exploring and growing and finding new ways of achieving that joy and happiness. Why would you stop yourself from doing that? Why would you stand in the way of your own happiness? It makes no sense whatsoever.

But what if you are the kind of person who likes helping others? What if you find your joy and happiness by helping other people? Then it doesn’t make sense to put yourself first does it?

Oh, but it does, let me present to you...

Reason number two: Pouring from an empty jug

If a water jug is empty, can you pour anyone a glass of water? Not without filling the jug up first, obviously.

You are the jug here. If you spend all your time looking after everyone else, never prioritising your own health or happiness or self-care, then guess what? You get empty. And if you get empty then you cannot give anything to anyone else. It really is that simple.

Prioritising yourself isn’t selfish in the negative sense, it is utterly sensible.

So, let’s take a look at reason number three...

Reason number three: Why would anyone else?

If you don’t love and take care of yourself then why would anyone else? If you don’t believe that you are worthy of being loved, then why would anyone else think you were?

The way you treat yourself very often dictates the way that others will treat you too. Have you ever been upset because people take advantage of your good nature? Or because nobody else seems to ever consider your feelings? Could it possibly be because you don’t consider yourself important enough to consider yourself?

In short, YOU are important. And you need to be the most important person in your life, for all the reasons I’ve given and more.

My wish for you is that you take the first step towards doing that today. Do something today just for you. Just. For. You. Be your own number one.
