No matter how good your relationship is, things can get stale if your routine is always the same. The problem is that we all have responsibilities—work, kids if we have a family, and a myriad of other things that prevent us from focusing on our relationship.

It can be very difficult to step away from our everyday concerns if we always stay in the same physical environment. No matter how hard we try to relax, when we’re at home, we are constantly reminded of the many things, little and big, that have to get done!

Here’s why a Bank Holiday weekend break could be just want you need to revamp your relationship:

It will give you time to focus on one another rather than on the big pile of clean laundry that needs sorting, the windows that need washing, or the lawn that needs mowing. It’s amazing how much emotional and physical energy simple chores eat up. Away from them, you’ll be able to enjoy each other’s company.

It will remind you of when you first got together. Life seemed simpler then, right? Whatever complications were going on for you at the time, you knew one thing for certain, and that was that you loved one another. You can use your time off to rekindle those feelings of the first flushes of love and romance.

You will create new memories. Having an adventure together doesn’t have to cost a lot of money, and if you are cash-strapped, there are lots of excursions right on your doorstep. Visit a beautiful park, see the museum you’ve been planning to go to for ages, or take a picnic somewhere off the beaten track. You won’t remember the many times you had to go the supermarket for a litre of milk, but you will remember these special days.

You will have the opportunity to really listen to each other. It’s way too easy to get stuck in a conversational rut, endlessly going over the same few topics. Outside your everyday routine, you can talk about the big picture—and hear each other’s views without being distracted.

You will have the chance to focus on each other physically. Like any other aspect of life, sex can become routine and even boring over time. A few days devoted to one another, away from your usual life, is just what you need to put the zing back in your relationship.
