'The One' could be redundant following research by Vashi that found- people meet three 'ones' in a lifetime. This is good news if you think you let 'the one' go- there's another one on their way!

The average amount of crushes someone experiences in a lifetime is 17, however actual love only happened five times for the Brits surveyed. One particularly loved up respondent thought they had been in love 24 times!

Most people still believe in the concept of 'the one', some are still a little unsure and more sceptically 17% of Brits don't think there is such a thing as one person for every person- the perfect match or a soulmate.

Brits think they have three chances at finding 'the one' as they have found more people suited to them than they expected to.

Just under half believe they met 'the one'- having never actually been on a date with them.

Vashi Dominguez of www.vashi.com had the following comments about the findings:

"Clearly, Briton is a nation of romantics; that much is clear! These results show that, even though most of us believe in soulmates, we don't think we are restricted to only one! Is this a move against monogamy by the British public?!

"Clearly, Briton is a nation of romantics; that much is clear! In all seriousness, we think that there is more than one chance for a person to find real, lasting love; there are millions of people in this country alone and connections are made every moment, from a new crush right through to the beginnings of a fairy-tale romance. Whether it's all a game of chance, destiny or simple timing, it's heartening to know that we don't necessarily get just one shot at love."
