Love Actually?

Love Actually?

Love Actually has come top of the pile for the best date movie! The Exorcist was not as popular as it was bumped to the bottom of the pile!

The Richard Curtis film starring Hugh Grant, Colin Firth and Keira Knightly overshadowed other rom com favourites such as Notting Hill in the quest to find the perfect movie to snuggle up with your partner to!

Despite an excuse to hide under your partner’s arm at the most grisly bits, The Exorcist didn’t fare well, as it was placed in the same category as Schindler's List as the wrong choice of movie for a romantic night in.

Ellie said:

‘I have been with my partner three years and I love nothing more still than to sit back with him on the couch and watch a movie together with some munch- the perfect night in!’

Talk Talk ran the study which found that movie choices are important for securing enjoyment for the rest of the date night.

They also found that two weeks in, which equates to about the third date, couples opt for the sofa and a movie rather than a meal out or the cinema. Could this be because of the unwritten third date rule?!

Talk Talk’s Commercial Director Tristia Harrison said:

”With couples enjoying their first date night in front of the TV just a couple of weeks into their relationship, our research shows just how important it is to pick the right film for a romantic evening.”

One in ten people said that a bad film might destroy any chances of a second date!

It is no surprise that a third of the nation said that they had had their first smooch in front of the TV.

Men are keener to have a night in front of the TV, perhaps because the bed is not as far away if they are feeling lucky! ;)

David said:

‘On my second date with my girlfriend we watched a movie in her bedroom as she didn’t have a living room in her flat. After the film finished we had sex for the first time- we were in bed so it seemed the natural choice!’

Women on the other hand try to postpone it until the fifth date.

One in six people find that sex scenes make the night uncomfortable if their partner has suggested a film that is raunchy for their evening's viewing!

‘I am disappointed that Terminator is on the list as this is one of my and my partner’s favourites! I think there is nothing more appealing than hiding behind your partner while watching a scary film too- it can encourage kissing too!’

I asked the girls in the office and they were in agreement that the film choice doesn’t really matter as long as it’s a good film, that a good mix is the key, so one party is not constantly subjected to one type of film.  Which  looking at the list seems to be the case, as most are chick flicks, it would appear that the ladies have control of the clickers!
