What does a man look at when he first sees or meets you? Well we have the answer! Most predictably they look at your breasts, however this comes third behind looking at your facial features. Eyes and smile are the most important says a recent survey. 70% of a man’s eyes are focused straight on a woman’s eyes when they meet.

Other noticeable things men will take into account are hair and weight and surprisingly, a quarter are preoccupied with how a woman is dressed and 28% are ‘leg men’ and like to have a sneaky look at your pins!

For women there was little difference with seven out of ten women focusing on a man’s’ eyes, a smile was also important, as well as height and hair, but none were worried about weight or legs.

Women are notoriously attracted to confident males and eye contact is a sure fire way to ascertain if a man in interested and if he is confident enough to approach you. Before the creation of phones, computers, letters and other methods to express our feelings for someone, this age old technique works very time! An awkward, unfocused attempt at eye contact can reduce him to the ‘friend zone’ or no result in no interaction at all.

Most women are more subtle in letting the guy know she is interested, instead of holding his gaze , she will choose to look back time and time again at him for the next 40-60 seconds. Once this has faded this is how he knows if she is interested, if she doesn't look back after this point, it generally means that she lacks confidence, has a partner or children and could be emotionally unavailable. If she looks back then this gives him the green light to make his move.

A spokesperson for Murine eye drops which commissioned the study, said: ‘’Eyes usually tell us a lot about a person so we aren’t surprised that eyes are what draws us to the opposite sex. Until you get to talk to a person for the first time, all you have to go on is the way they look, a simple smile is also something that both genders notice in each other. It goes to show that men and women are more alike than many would previously had thought.  This study almost crushes the common stereotype that the first thing men look at is a woman’s chest; however it came third on the list so it’s not quite a changed habit. Getting attention from the opposite sex boosts your confidence so using your eyes and smile in positive ways really gives you a good chance of getting welcomed attention, even if it’s innocent.’’

Many men and women often miss the point that nonverbal communication is far more important than words, try to let your eye contact be in keeping with the rest of your body, if your eyes are relaxed but your body is tense, the other person will know that you are putting it on! Try not to be the first one to break eye contact, women and men like confidence so push yourself to look like you are! Shyness is want movies are made of, but it not really that attractive in real life!

One in five men have admitted to walking into another person while they have been locked eyes with another woman! Even worse, one in ten men have walked into a lamp post when eyeing up a beautiful woman, so no, it doesn’t just happen in the movies!

Unfortunately, a quarter of men have been clocked doing this while they were with their partner! Ouch!

Women are just as bad with seventeen percent having to make a U-turn after being distracted by an attractive man.

Two thirds of men are not fazed by telling the opposite sex that they have an attractive feature, despite women not being the best at taking compliments! Only half of women feel that they could do the same.

When it comes to celebrity examples, the majority of men are attracted to Cheryl Cole’s eyes, whereas women like a bit of George Clooney for his perfect peepers!

Optometrist Lara Hefson added: ‘Hectic and demanding lifestyles can take their toll on our eyes and leave them looking dull and feeling uncomfortable, dry and tired. Whether it’s an early start or a late night out, a day in front of a computer or a long journey - sometimes our eyes need a little pick me up.
