Sarah Jessica Parker celebrates her 53rd birthday today, so we take a look back over her relationships since her rise to fame.
Parker had a relationship with actor Robert Downey Jr from 1984 till 1991, after they met on the set of Firstborn. Downey's drug problem affected their relationship and when she looked back on their time as a couple, she said; "I believed I was the person holding him together." (Wikipedia)
She later dated singer/songwriter Joshua Kadison and following their break up he wrote the song 'Jessie in the early 1990s to cope with the split.
Parker was introduced by one of her brothers to actor Matthew Broderick at the Naked Angels Theatre Company, where they were both performers.
The pair married on 19th May 1997 in a civil ceremony at a historic synagogue on the Lower East Side in Manhattan. Broderick labels himself as Jewish; however the ceremony was performed by his sister Janey Broderick Kraft who is an Episcopal priest.
In 2002, they had a son James Wilie and their twin daughters were delivered via surrogate in June 2009.
Parker and Broderick chose the middle names Elwell and Hodge for their daughters as these are from Parker's mother's family.
Since 2009, they have lived in New York City and enjoy some time in their second home in County Degal, Ireland, where Broderick spent many of his summers when he was little. They also own a house in The Hamptons.
Broderick sang the song 'I can Only Give You Love' for Parker at her 40th Birthday party-I wonder what he has up his sleeve for this one!?
One of Parker's only quotes on marriage is; ' I tell my friends married life is boring, but that's just a fun thing to say to make single people feel better.' (IMDB) For one of the longest standing Hollywood couples- it must be better than 'boring'.
Happy Birthday Jessica!
