The weather is getting warmer, so that means one thing - Spring has arrived! Here are my predictions for this year’s top trends.

Statement Sleeves

These have been popular since last season, and this trend is going nowhere! Statement sleeves suit all shapes and you can use them to your advantage, depending on your body shape. If you are narrower on your top half, with bigger hips, look for a puffed shoulder. If you have a tummy, look for a full statement sleeve or bell sleeve which will balance out your proportions.

Peplum

Peplum hasn’t been seen for a while now, but luckily it’s back in a big way. It’s such a handy hemline for ladies who don’t like their tummies, but who still want to show off their waist. Peplum tops look great with skinny jeans or trousers.

Sheer Overlays

Sheer and mesh overlays are a great trend to wear in Spring when you need more than a vest but less than a cardigan! They can be worn with cami vests or slips underneath, or pop them over skinny jeans.

Collars

Statement collars are everywhere on the high street and there’s one for every body shape. If you have a small bust and narrow shoulders, look for a Peter Pan collar. If you have a fuller bust, look for a more triangular collar, or one with a v-neck. Collars are great for framing the face and adding structure to the upper body.

Tailoring & Co-Ords

Tailoring doesn’t have to be confined to the office, and with many of us working from home, we will need smart looks for video calls that are still comfortable. Tailoring also works well for date nights and is a classic look that will never look outdated. For evening wear, pair your tailoring with a heel and silky cami. For daywear, add a white tee and crisp white trainers.

Florals

As Miranda Priestly famously said in The Devil Wears Prada….”Florals for spring, groundbreaking”. Florals make an appearance every spring and summer, but with a slightly different slant. Florals suit everyone and the size of your floral is important. If you are short, look for small “ditsy” florals. Taller ladies or plus size ladies should wear large, scattered florals.

Shorts

If you fancy a change from denim shorts, take a trip back to the 80s with the Bermudas. These shorts work well for slimming the legs as they have an adequate gap between the legs and the fabric. Shorts that cling to the leg are going to shorten and widen them. Bermuda shorts don’t just come in jazzy prints, they also come in leather and pleather. Wear with a crisp white tee, wedges, sandals or sliders.

Polka Dots

The polka dot is never going to date and will always be classic and timeless. If you are short, look for small dots and large ones if you are tall. Polkas look great against crisp white jeans or navy wide leg trousers and white pumps.

Statement Accessories

During these uncertain times, we can experiment with dramatic accessories and a bit of escapism! Use this time to experiment with bolder looks than you are used to, and statement hats are a perfect way to do this. Look for wide brimmed hats which are perfect for covering hair that hasn’t been cut in a while. Look also, for silky scarves that can jazz up a white tee or shell jewellery which is still on trend a year on from last summer. Accessories are an affordable, fun way to update your look and existing wardrobe

Platform Shoes

I have always loved a platform shoe, and chunkier footwear works so well for balancing out curvier silhouettes. They can be more comfortable than dainty shoes and they work with so many different looks. You can wear a chunky sandal with a long summer dress, skinny jeans, wide leg trousers and more. They can take some getting used to, but I promise once you do, you will notice a difference to your overall look.

Mom Jeans

I never thought I would see the day that skinny jeans dropped in popularity. However, Mom jeans, wide leg jeans and boyfriend have taken over skinnies because many women are favouring the looser fit and higher waist. Fashion has been heavily influenced by the 80s (thanks to popular Netflix shows such as Stranger Things, I’m Not Ok With This and Sex Education). The love of 80s fashion has seen a sway towards looser fitting denim and they can be more comfortable for women who find skinny jeans too restrictive. Just ensure you pair with a more fitted top to keep your proportions in check.
