Due to the World Sexual Health Day taking place this 4th of September, as the founder of Victoria Milan, one of the world’s leading social dating networks for married and attached people seeking a discreet affair, I would like to raise a red flag for those having extramarital sexual relationships.

According to the latest Annual Epidemiological Report for 2016 published recently by the ECDC (European Centre for Disease prevention and Control), a total of 29,444 people were diagnosed with HIV in the 31 countries of the EU/EEA. But HIV isn’t the only condition that can develop after having irresponsible sex. Other diseases like pneumocystis pneumonia, pulmonary and/or extra-pulmonary tuberculosis or esophageal candidiasis can very much complicate your life and the lives of those having a close relationship with you.

After having conducted a survey among more than 12K users from 21 countries, we realised how surprisingly low the average rate of using condoms in extramarital relationships is and how risky this is not just for those having these extramarital affairs but also for the spouses who aren’t involved but nevertheless are potentially affected as a result.

On average, only 11% of those 12,104 active male members from 21 countries registered on victoriamilan.com who took part in the survey admitted that women whom they have affairs with make them wear a condom when having sex. Countries like Hungary or Austria have a shockingly low average rate of 5 and 6% respectively! So our question is: are we being serious enough about the importance of the health risks involved in extramarital relationships?

Last summer it was already reported by the World Health Organization that there had been an increase in a new STD epidemic for which some could and would blame extramarital relationships. Neglecting the use of condoms whilst having an affair not only can put your sexual health at risk but also can lead to losing your spouse. Here’s the thing: if you and the people you’re having affairs with aren’t concerned about how important preventing sexual diseases by using protection is, how long do you think it is going to take your spouse to find the whole thing out? Having affairs is a choice but taking care of your sexual health and that of your spouse is an obligation.
