Andrea Amaro began her record attempt by running a full 26.2 miles and maintained her streak by running 13.1 miles for the next 14 days.

Amaro revealed that she was left in so much pain from the first marathon that she doubted if she would be able to complete the challenge.

She told KVIA-TV: "I don't think there was a day that went by where I thought I don't know how I'm going to get through this."

Amaro is submitting evidence of her running so she can be recognised by Guinness as the official record holder and explained that she had taken on the challenge to raise awareness about mental health.

She explained: "This message is really for mental health awareness. I hope that my message is whatever you do, you never give up. Life is full of obstacles. We're always going to have troubles and it's always not about how we fall but how we get up."
