Max Vredenburgh, 19, admits that he had completely forgotten about sending the bottle into the Atlantic Ocean, and his mind was blown when received a response from France.

The teen - from Massachusetts - told CNN: ''My parents always saved things from our childhood, so I don't think much about it. Then I read the letter from the recipient, and my heart just dropped.''

Vredenburgh wrote the letter on August 21, 2010, and he and his father threw the bottle into the ocean.

The letter read: ''I like apples. I like the beach, my favourite colour's blue, I like animals, I like cars and I like outer space.''

The bottle had washed up on a beach in France and 'G. Dubois' responded to the letter last month.

The reply read: ''It will have taken 9 years to cover the 6000 kms that separates us. You had grown a lot during that time: 10 to 19 years old.''

Vredenburgh plans to get in touch with the letter writer and thank him for responding.
