Biotechnology students from State University of New York uncorked a bottle from the SS Oregon on Thursday and now want to make a new beer if they can successfully extract yeast.

Bill Felter, of Serious Brewing, got the beer from a customer who owns an artifacts recovered from the Oregon.

The ship - which was was en route from Liverpool, England, to New York City - had 852 people aboard when it crashed into with a boat near Fire Island, New York, and sank on March 14, 1886.

Only one person survived the tragedy.

It wouldn't be the first time such a beverage has been made as last year, an Australian brewer produced beer from yeast recovered from a 220-year-old shipwreck.
