The Co-operative Academy in Leeds is working with a human rights charity to help those at risk of forced marriages and has taken the unusual approach in the hope that it would trigger metal detectors and encourage the youngster to alert airport staff.

The school's social, culture and ethos leader, Harinder Kaur, is adamant that the spoons could ''save lives''.

Speaking to the BBC, she said: ''In the six-weeks holidays we know there is no contact between school and the family and families have that opportunity to go abroad, get their child married and come back.

''It's a way of making our children aware there is a safety net there.''
