The locals in the Pennsylvania city grew tired of waiting for authorities to fix the hole after a ''few weeks'' and so decided to take matters into their own hands and came to the conclusion it was the perfect shape for a tree.

Marietta Spak - a resident of the city - said that she came up with the idea when looking for holiday decorations for her house.

She said: ''I was upstairs in the attic and was looking for more Christmas decorations and thought that would look nice in the hole.''

The city's Department of Public Works got wind of the stunt and repaired to pothole which is now covered by a mental slab as a temporary fix.
